Personal Goal Setting: The First Step Toward a Purpose-Driven Life

by admin on February 11, 2011

What’s your aim in life? If you don’t have a ready answer, don’t be surprised. Even the greatest of the philosophers who had ever lived succeeded only in making this question more profound. Why? As the answer lies not in simply knowing what’s your goal in life but consists of discovering what’s your goal in life. The last one is only possible if you have already gone through the operation of goal setting.

Soul-searching is in fact personal goal setting in its infancy. The only issue is that for many people that infant never become older into maturity. The individual involved in soul-searching might dismiss this process as nothing but being sentimental. Without realizing it, the individual had just killed the infant, or his chance to flesh-out the course of his purpose driven life.

But luckily, soul-searching is a repeating process. So the next time you have received the honor of another visit, be mindful.

Personal goal setting is a powerful tool for setting a course for a meaningful and fulfilling life. The process of personal goal setting in itself is powerful enough that if you are following up on the process you might believe that your life’s meaning or purpose had been found. But it is not. The euphoria is only a consequence of your self finally realizing that you’re not off course.

For some, the procedure is motivating. Once you’ve found a way in making this a addiction, you will soon realize that accomplishing your objectives that look like impenetrable walls in the past is nothing but a purpose that needs a collection of personal objectives as the cornerstone.

Personal goal setting: what ought to be set?

Since there is more to life than the four letters that it represents, personal goal setting involves a review of all the facets of your life, and all of these should have an identical goal. But before going to the process of installing goals, you must have one general goal that encompasses all the other goals. In point of fact the other and smaller ambitions ought to work in the service of this large goal of yours.

1. Career. What facet of your career do you think needs an improvement? Or maybe, ask yourself: is time for a new career?

2. Outlook or attitude. Is there an element of you, particularly on how you perceive things, that has to be changed?

3. Financial. Do you suffer with a plain projection as to how much you ought to be earning in a certain moment in your life? This aspect is closely associated with career, so better review and come forth with a goal with these two side by side.

4. Potential development. Perhaps some of your talents and skills need an improvement, or are possibly already clamoring for an improvement. Life, when all said and done, is discovering your potential and developing it in the act.

5. Academic. Perhaps you’re no longer getting any mental stimulation lately. Maybe your education-related objectives had expired many years ago. Perhaps it’s time to can go back to school for another degree, or engage in any thought provoking activities.

6. Family. What is your idea of a family group? Getting married, having and raising kids? When? How?

7. Social involvement. Perhaps you want to help achieve a thing that would make the world a better place? Perhaps you’re into animal protection, environmental concerns, and human rights issues?

These are just some aspects that mostly springs to mind when looking at personal matters. If you feel or consider that this list is not sufficient, or doesn’t fit well with you, you may include or change it. Remember, personal goal setting is what known by the name – a personal task. It is all your choice to device it and make it happen.

I think it means a small group of your friends or, if you go to church, a small group of fellow Christians. My church aactually has a "small group" class designed to further study the bible.
We read The purpose Driven Life in that class.

For me, I fasted the entire time I read the book. During this time God revealed to me that even though I was living a good life, living a "christian" life, I wasn't living a God life. I wasn't willing to die to myself and give my entire trust in God. I would do things that the church wanted me to do or others might suggest but I wasn't willing to listen the Holy Spirit and do what he said, go where he sent me, etc. The Purpose Driven Life book helped me open my eyes that the my focus was still on me and not on God where it needed to be.

The Purpose Driven Life is a Purpose Driven Lie. I’m not hating at all but this same Rick Warren is a man that is of the CFR (illuminati) and although this book seems to have “some” biblical truth, it is still plagued with the lie of the serpent. Rick Warren never mentions repentence from sin. He even quotes New Age authors and speakers in this book. A repentless, no turning from sin, self centered gospel is “another gospel” and Jesus and the Apostles warned of this. Go back to the BIBLE

The “purpose driven life” for 90%+ of humanity (according to Christianity) is to live a life of pain and misery (at times) and then to have their sorry asses tossed into biblehell for all eternity.

Wow, this is exactly what happen to me although I was and elder in a Church of about 1000. The pastor said I tithing I told him just what you said. When the church embraced The Purpose Driven Life I went to the pastor and told him to just preach from the Bible no other book. To make a long story we where told as leaders in the church many people looked to us for leadership and if we could not the direction the churh was going “we should look for another place to worship”.
